This Privacy Policy describes how the Connection Monitor Android application (“the App”, package name com.nestor.connectionmonitorwidget) handles information. Connection Monitor is developed and maintained by Nestor (“we”, “us”, “our”).
We built Connection Monitor to run entirely on your device. We do not operate any backend servers for this app, we do not require you to create an account, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
ipwho.is) to look up your public IP address, country, and hostname. Your device connects directly to that service; we do not act as an intermediary. To provide network- and VPN-monitoring features, the App reads the following information from your device:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| VPN connection state | Detects whether a VPN is active, to show VPN status in the widget/notification |
| Internet/network connectivity state | Detects whether the device has internet access and what network type (Wi-Fi, mobile, VPN) is in use |
| Local IP address | Displayed in the widget/app for informational purposes |
| Public IP address, country, and hostname | Retrieved from the third-party service ipwho.is and displayed in the widget/app |
| DNS server addresses | Read from the device’s active network configuration and displayed in the widget/app |
| Network traffic statistics (bytes sent/received) | Used to calculate and display current speed and daily/weekly data usage totals |
| Ping/latency measurements | Used to estimate connection quality, where this feature is enabled |
None of this information is transmitted to us. It is read from Android system APIs, stored locally using Android’s DataStore (a local on-device storage mechanism), and used only to render the widget, the in-app dashboard, and optional status notifications.
The App uses ipwho.is to determine your public IP address, approximate country, and hostname. When this lookup runs, your device sends a request directly to ipwho.is’s servers; your public IP address is inherently visible to that service as part of any internet request. We do not control ipwho.is and are not responsible for its practices. You can review their policies at their website.
If you disable network/IP-related features in the App’s settings, this request will not be made.
All information described above is stored locally on your device using Android’s DataStore Preferences. This data:
The App requests the following Android permissions, used solely for the purposes below:
We do not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, storage, call logs, or SMS.
The App does not display advertisements and does not include third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since all data stays on-device and is not collected by us, no data about any user, including children, is transmitted to us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
